The Striped Mystery: Zebra

Though zebras are native to the savannas of Africa, their striking black-and-white stripes captivate storytellers worldwide. In Amazonian folklore, zebras are often woven into stories brought by explorers. These stories liken zebras to mystical creatures, blending harmoniously into environments as varied as the jungle, desert, and grasslands.

While the Amazon lacks zebras, its forest floor is home to similarly patterned species, such as the black-and-white striped poison dart frog. Like zebras, these frogs use their patterns to confuse predators and warn of their toxic nature.
